The course leader provides an overview of products already on the market, explaining how they vary from one another and the risk factors of each. This session will cover forward contracts, futures contracts, options, swaps, floors, caps, calls, straddles and mortgage-backed securities.

10:45 - 12:00 PRICING DERIVATIVES: A PRIMER
This session offers solutions to issues of derivative pricing and risk
management. It will cover how pricing of derivatives is determined,
focusing on various models, and cost and carry methods of pricing.

12:00 - 1:00 LUNCHEON A chance to network with attendees and the course leader

1:00 - 2:00 TAX RULES PART I: THE BASICS OF TAX FORWARDS, FUTURES AND OPTIONS
Explore the tax implications, advantages and disadvantages of investing in various financial products. You will learn about various IRS rulings and court decisions which affect the taxation of these products.

2:00 - 3:30 TAX RULES PART II: BASICS OF SWAPS, CAPS AND FLOORS
This is a chance to learn about the tax consequences of swaps, caps and floors and the advantages and disadvantages of each. The new proposed regs for contingent swaps are discussed.

3:30 - 3:45 REFRESHMENT BREAK

3:45 - 5:00 TAX RULES PART III: BASIC OID PREMIUM AND MARKET DISCOUNT RULES FOR DEBT
This session will explore the taxation of debt instruments from the perspectives of both the issuer and the holder. The original issue discount, market discount, and bond premium rules will be discussed.

8:00 - 8:30 TAX TRAPS FOR INVESTORS — Part I: SHORT SALE RULES AND WASH SALE RULES
Surprising tax rules can often trap the most sophisticated investors. Certain loss disallowance and deferral rules will be discussed in this session.

8:30 - 10:00 TAX TRAPS FOR INVESTORS — Part II: STRADDLE RULES AND CONVERSION TRANSACTIONS
This session will provide an in-depth look at the straddle rules. It will also discuss transactions that will convert capital gain into ordinary income, as well as provide a brief discussion of other tax traps.

10:00 - 10:15 REFRESHMENT BREAK

10:15 - 11:00 SPECIAL TIMING RULES — MARK-TO -MARKET FOR SECURITIES, COMMODITIES DEALERS AND TRADERS, CONSTRUCTIVE SALES, OWNERSHIP TRANSACTIONS
The Tax Code increasingly imposes a variety of special timing rules for some taxpayers and some special activities. The traps and opportunities from the mark-to-market method of accounting will be examined
specifically, as well as new proposed regulations on valuation.

11:00 - 12:00 BUSINESS HEDGES — Character and timing of gains and losses for hedging activities
Taxpayers routinely use derivatives and other assets to hedge their economic risks. Character and timing of gains and losses from business hedges are subject to a special tax regime. Timely identification also is critical for tax planning.

12:00 - 12:45 LUNCHEON A chance to network with attendees and the course leader

12:45 - 1:45 COMPARING Tax AND FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING FOR DERIVATIVES
This session will provide a general overview of the financial accounting for derivatives under U.S. GAAP and will feature practical discussions of the differences between financial accounting for derivatives and hedges and
the tax treatment of derivatives and hedges.

1:45 - 2:00 REFRESHMENT BREAK

2:00 - 3:00 SECURITIZATION AND STRUCTURED FINANCE TAX BASICS
This session will discuss special tax provisions and issues related to REMICS, (including 2004 act changes) the repealed FASIT rules, taxable mortgage pool rules, and other relevant tax issues for these segments of the financial markets.
